Debbie Please help! Debbie was found in East New York, Brooklyn after being hit by a car. Even in her pain, she had nothing but kisses for volunteer that was at the shelter when she arrived in a milk truck. The volunteer called us and arrangements were made for Debbie to go to a special hospital in NYC to have her leg attended to.

Once she was able to walk, we took her to a local park where we noticed how she stopped at every brownstone and looked happily in anticipation up the stairs. Even with her leg injury, she wanted to run up every stairway. Since she never paid any attention to street level lobbies or downstairs apartments, we started realizing that Debbie was looking for her home. When we would arrive at the park, she would get so excited when we reached the basket ball courts and wagged her tail a mile a minute as she checked out every young man that she saw. We knew she was looking for her family.

After a week of After a week of 'looking' this smart 5 year old shepherd mix realized she wasn't going home. From that moment on she has refused to go outside again. She has become depressed. She won't even eat the hot dogs we bring her. She bangs her food dish against the bars of her kennel, like a prisoner. She is heartbroken and it is breaking our hearts. And she is starting to close down. Tomorrow, we will take Debbie to where she was found, put out flyers and hope that she can lead us to her home. We realize that although it might not be the best neighborhood, Debbie was well fed, clean, not hand shy and very happy and good natured, the signs of a cared for dog. We will do our best to see if we can find her family and hope they are looking for her too. We pray she wasn't abandoned like so many others from this area. Debbie is one of the most loyal and sensitive dogs we have ever had, and now one of the saddest.
