Remember Eloy? He was tied to the back of a car by a vicious man in Quito, Ecuador. Linda fo the Amigo Fiel Foundation rescued and nurtured him back to health, although his right front legs and part of his tail needed amputation. He was adopted by Canadian couple who opened up their heart and home to Eloy.

LETTER FROM HOME
Eloy is doing great! He is maneuvering around on the hardwood floors better(not slipping anymore) and I think he has realized that he can relax because this is a permanent home for him. He is a happy dog and loves to run in the park, he listens well. He is great to cuddle with…., I just love to have naps with him. He gives kisses and loves to get his nose kissed. He also loves toys and to stretch out on his lounge chair. He is better with food, he waits for his treats and doesn’t try to get into the garbage. He is secure in knowing he will be fed.

He is a good boy and it is a pleasure to have him in our life. Eloy makes me laugh everyday, his expressions are almost human and sometimes his upper lip curls in because of his lack of teeth, he looks so cute! He is very independent — if he slips or falls down, he doesn’t like to be helped, he wants to get back up on his own. I am so proud of him, to have gone through everything that he did and still have a such a positive spirit. I just love him so much, his nickname is LoyLoy. Right now he is curled up on the couch with Dexter, my Shepherd. They are looking at me with their big, shiny brown eyes. I will go sit with them.
Thank you Toni, for saving Eloy and for not giving up on him….and God bless you and Stray from the Heart for all that you do.
Sincerely, Gwen

Celeste and her husband adopted Chiquita (a/k/a/ “Petunia”) a few months ago from Ecuador. When they heard about the Amigo Fiel shelter closing, they immediately offered to adopt Lucas. As you can see, Lucas (with the harness on) is now enjoying life in Connecticut with his sister Chiquita.
Toni
LETTER FROM HOME
A MIRACLE happened in New London CT today…Chiquita went to the bathroom outside!
Let me start at the beginning….
Last night was wonderful. We picked up Lucas with Toni with no problems, other than one kinda fierce growl and bark, quickly won over with freshly cooked chicken breast! We loaded up the crate and set off for home. About half way, Lucas starting panting like he was really thirsty, so we opened up the crate to give him a drink. I was greeted with such love, affection and happiness. I was STUNNED! The hardest part of the rest of the trip was convincing Lucas that he does not actually fit in my lap. He loved the car ride. We stopped at MacDonalds so Charlie could make a pitstop. As soon as he left the car, Lucas jumped into the drivers seat and watched for him to come back. As soon as Charlie started down the path and Lucas saw him, that big ole tail started thumping away. HE LOVES CHARLIE!!!!!!! YEA!!!!!
We got home, and Lucas went to the bathroom before we all came into the house. We all came in, Lucas on the leash. I went up and got Chiquita on her leash and introductions started, and lasted about 30 seconds - wagging tails all around! The two dogs look so much like each other, Lucas just much larger. Chiquita is not territorial at all, but indeed seems really happy Lucas is here. After about an hour of sniffing, it was bedtime. Last night two people, two dogs, and two cats all slept together. I can’t believe it.
This am we got up to walk Lucas, and took Chiquita along. Both dogs walked along so nicely, and like I said, for the first time in CT history, Chiquita got it right! I suspect that we will have two housebroken dogs very quickly now.
So - obviously things are going swimmingly. Lucas is the sweetest, most loving dog ever. We are so very lucky to have him. His effect on Chiquita is really a miracle. Looks like this story is going to have a happy ending
Will keep everyone posted.
Celeste

Loiza is a Sato from Puerto Rico adopted two years ago. She had spent most of her puppy life as a stray roaming the beaches of Salinas, Puerto Rico. She still loves the beach, but now she goes sailing every summer in Long Island with her two moms who also love the beach and adore Loiza.

LETTER FROM HOME:
I just wanted to take this time to give you an update on our sweet boy Dino… It has taken time (which was to be expected), but Dino opens up more and more every day. After I spoke with you a couple of weeks ago, worried that Dino didn’t have a voice, he barked the very next day! My husband was outside while Dino and I sat on the living room couch. Oliver (hubby) decided to peek through the window at us. Dino was not expecting this (nor I) and he growled and barked at him. We were soooo proud of him! It is so pleasant to have a dog that is not a yapper, but it is quite comforting to know that he is a protector.
Dino and Bridget are two peas in a pod. They love to hike, sleep and eat together. They give each other kisses in the morning and Bridget loves to nip at his muzzle to get him to play. My husband and I are thrilled to see Dino become a part of our family each and every day. He loves a nice belly rub…actually he loves any contact whatsoever. If you stop petting him, he nudges your hand and makes you pet him. He also will put his paw on your lap or face if he wants to be extra cute! I think his favorite thing to do though is to follow me EVERYWHERE I go. He is my adorable shadow:)

Dino loves to ride in the car. He knows that this means we are going for a nice hike. I can’t wait until Thanksgiving when we drive to Michigan. Everyone is excited to meet our new baby boy. I recently took Dino and Bridget to Barktoberfest in Putnam Valley and was relieved to know that Dino is good with new dogs, adults and children. Dino is still shy, don’t get me wrong, but he is never ever agressive. I am completely confident with Dino around children which is a relief since we plan on having some ourselves someday. The kids and adults thought Dino had the perfect temperament (Bridget too). He just sat there and let everyone pet him. I guess he didn’t have much to complain about.

Anyway, thank you for bringing Dino into our lives. He makes us smile every day:) I don’t know what we would do without him. We no longer have our apartment in the city, so you must come visit us in the country one day.
Sincerely,
Pyul, Oliver & Bridget

It is an all too familiar story: a beautiful young Border Collie Mix lay bleeding and motionless after being struck by a car on a street in Ecuador. Her hip is fractured, leg is broken, paws are bruised. Her survival is unlikely.
Then her guardian angel appears! Linda Del Pup is the co-founder of the Quito, Ecuador-based Amigo Fiel Foundation, an organization that aims to find homes for the country’s neglected and unwanted dogs, dogs who would otherwise have only a slim chance of survival. Informed
by a friend of the dog’s condition, Linda wastes no time in rushing to the
dog’s aid.
Partnering with Stray From the Heart, Linda arranged for “Luisa? to relocate to New York and undergo surgery to repair both her hip and leg. Six months later Luisa was well on the road to a full recovery.
Luisa’s new owner, Corey, reports that Luisa is doing extremely well.
She loves to go for long walks and learned to walk beautifully on a leash. She is also friendly with other dogs and children.
“I can’t even tell you how amazing she is. She is blossoming and slowly coming out of her shyness,? Corey informs us. “Please send my thanks to everyone in Ecuador for loving Luisa, bringing her back to health and making her journey to NYC possible.?
Thanks to Linda and the good works of Stray From the Heart, Luisa is better than ever and thriving in her new home.
LETTER FROM HOME
Just wanted to give you a little update on how well Luisa is doing. She’s doing really well in general, we feel so lucky to have such a fantastic dog. She is totally paper trained, she walks beautifully on a leash, friendly to other dogs & children.

I can’t even tell you how amazing she is. She is blossoming, and is slowly coming out of her shyness, loves to cuddle in bed and go for long walks.
Please send my thanks to everyone in Ecuador for loving Luisa, and bringing her back to health and making her journey to NYC possible.
With all my love,
Corey

Daisy is the three legged dog, and the very first dog we brought from Ecuador (see ecuador.strayfromtheheart.org). Her hip got seriously infected by a huge mass that grew in the area where she had been originally amputated and she has struggled with illness, but know her life is like the fresh wildflower she is named after!
LETTER FROM HOME
Daisy is doing wonderfully- she just chased the poor UPS guy out the door (I guess she knew the package he had didn’t contain any stuffed lobster toys for her or anything) and she is back to her playful (overly at times) self. She is down to 2 pain pills a day- I don’t know if she even still needs them, I just feel like she should take them. I am weaning her down because I don’t know if she’ll have withdrawal or anything. So far she hasn’t shown any sign of phantom limb pain. She’s very snuggly with the baby as you can see. Her and Isaac are very good friends- they play together and sometimes sleep together but usually just sit on either side of me on the couch or on the bed.

She is very much back to her old self- no signs of any infection- she’s about as anti lethargic as you can be, and her appetite is back full force. She’s able to get up and down the deck stairs to the yard without any hesitation and though she still prefers to be carried up longer stairs (and I feel better carrying her too) she really seems to be healing very well..
She gets her stitches out tomorrow- I am going to ask the vets if she should keep the E Collar on longer or if I should just put her striped sweater (the one she arrived in!) on to distract her from eating the leg bit. I have a feeling she will remain “Coney” for awhile.

Oh, and I’d already signed the No Dogs For Dinner petition- I get those emails at all 3 email addresses and always send them to everyone in my address book! I met a nice lady at the convenience store today who has an adopted 14 year old chihuahua mix with snaggle teeth and a messed up ear. She rescued her from neglectful owners. We commended each other on our respective rescues and talked about how we just wish we had more money and more room and more time- to take in even more rescues. I talk about Stray From the Heart at work all the time- I’ve saved it in all 4 computer’s bookmarks so people can go and look for potential adoptees….
Hope you’re doing well- Again thank you so much for … all the wonderful work you do for so many (now) lucky dogs. You are one of the only true heroes I’ve ever met, and I’m honored that you chose Jerrett and me to be Daisy’s new family.
Sincerely-
Tara and Jerret, Eliza and Daisy, Isaac and Bernadette and Simon.
